Stinky W7's ??

my setup is in my signature: I just got everything installed 2 weeks ago and everything was brand new. Been having 2 problems:

1.) On Big bass peaks I have noticed the bass drastically reducing like its "cutting out". I can't tell if its one sub cutting out or just both decreasing in output. It happens not often so it is hard to test it to see. I am thinking possibly voltage problems, but with a Kinetik 1800 and BIG 3 I am not sure. What do you guys think is causing this cutting out. It's like on the bass peaks it tries to draw the power but fails then a couple seconds later it comes back to full output. so weird!!???

2.) When I have it bumping hard I notice the subs or at least the ports being quite stinky. Almost like a burning smell when you put your nose up to the ports. And when I bump for a bit and then open the trunk I can really smell it. The subs all seem to be fine and sound great. The gains were set to JL specs with the test cd and volt meter and I can hear no distortion/clipping. I have read subs can smell when first new. Any ideas what this smell is from???

and maybe there is something wrong and both of these problems are related, but please add any input or thoughts to my two questions. thanks so much!

your dropping voltage and your amps are going into protect

and on top of that, your either a) burning off excess material on your subs or b) overheating the voicecoils (im guessing b from the sounds of your cutting out issues)

long story short, your beating the crap out of your system.

but I'm really not abusing my stuff. I never go pass 45-50 on my volume knob(gains set at 47) and keep my sub level at -1 or -2. When I had the cutout issue today I just got in the car from working out and noticed it. It's not like I was wanging on it hard for an hour and then noticed it. And the amps don't go into protect until 9 or 10 volts which I am sure is not happening. And how would I be overheating the voicecoils?? I have a modest 750 watts going to each which is optimum for the 12W7 and the gains were set right. please help?

Although I doubt this is happening, but if you are clipping the output of your amplifier, that will send more heat to your voicecoils than you could possibly imagine and rather quickly too!

this happeneed with me and some type arrrgs. sturns out the subs were barley touching the back wall of the box. lol when i took the subs out the sub was melted in the back and the box looked burnt.

set your gains at 3/4. also set your sub level output.. you HD has a voltage output it is supposed to have .. play like a 50hz tone and turn ur volume to 3/4 check RCA voltage.. if not say 4 volt then turn up the sub level on the Head unit.. once this is done hook up the amp again and set their gains with the DMM again this time they will be getting a good full voltage signal and are less likely to be clipping.. i think you clipping the inputs of the amp by not sending a clean full voltage signal to the amp inputs..
