steering gone...

my steering has gone out and it will cost me $600 to fix all the parts needed to get it back...they told me its because i have my torsion bars cranked all the way and the 35inch tires are too heavy...so, i am going to lower the truck and put smaller tires on it...but a new question pops in my head, if the tires are too heavy would 18s with 295 tires be just as heavy if not heavier? the torsion bars would be cranked all the way down...back to stock ride except for the 3inch body life
