Sparks mean its working!
Just got settled down after my first shift at UPS. Midnight loader. So if you have anything coming through the area, I might be the one who breaks it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Kind of strange since I only ship through FedEx. But I guess we get a pretty cool discount package through several of the companies that ship through us. Plus they should be getting tuition assistance here soon.

I also like that they stuck me on the truck that goes to my hometown, so it will take next to no time to memorize my zip codes.

I wonder if I'll see any Mach 5 stuff come through, since we are one of the first central hubs on the way to Chicago and the Canadian National freight train stop is only a couple blocks from the UPS building.

I've worked for fedex for some time now. Worst part is getting up at 2:30am but you get used to it.

Me, or the op? I'm ususally out around 8. This time of year though we can run up till 10. My hub's pretty large & brand new so stuff gets loaded pretty fast.

What time do you get off?
Shift is from 10:30pm-3:00am. Last night I got out at 3:45 just because they got hit with a shit ton of packages at the end of the night and we were short staffed.

I know volume will be on the high side for the next month or so, but the HR person said that, because of the economy, it hasn't really spiked yet and it usually does by now. My supervisor seems pretty cool though, and since my 30 day trial period falls on their peak season, I have a feeling she'll be cutting me a little extra slack. She already likes me because I caught all of the test packages she tossed at me (packages they throw in your truck that don't belong there, to make sure you're checking all your labels).

Pretty easy job though. Not really sore at all this morning. And for $9.50 an hour after 90 days (period before Union Seniority kicks in), I really can't complain. Wages are shit up in this area. Plus, if I go over 5 hours for the night, I get time and a half (woot, twelve minutes of overtime last night).

Only major problem I have is adjusting my study schedule to fit in the reduced time. I actually have to start utilizing weekends to get stuff done. But finals will be done in two weeks, so I can start fresh next semester.

I may start working at ups. I'm broke and need a job. lol
Yeah man, they are about the only place that is GUARANTEED to be hiring this time of year. I've been looking for a decent job for a while now, but they go really fast in a college town.
