I have two of these:

...and one of these:

The amp ,according to the Kicker certificate, can make 1,763wrms.

Even though, I can only wire the subs to create 1 Ohm, I will only need ~1,500wrms from the amp.

Despite the amp being rated to be 2 Ohm stable, is it possible/safe to use it at 1 Ohm and draw such a small amount of power through it?

I've used the old Kicker "2 ohm stable" amps at 1 ohm with mixed results. Really best to not risk it if you can't afford the expense/hassle of blowing up your amp. IMO if you have to ask you definitely have no business attempting to run your equipment outside of manufacturer specifications.

Thanks for the (sensible) replies - I should follow the advice. That KX amp wasn't cheap and I'd hate to wreck it.

I have two brand new L7 10" subs that I could wire to 2 ohm... I'm just worried that it would be a huge loss of SPL compared to what I'm used to with the 15's.

From what I've been reading, the output of two identical subs, compared to one, is negligible. I don't understand why, but I'm not the expert here... Is there a similar principle to apply with my alternative? The L7 10's being a very poor stand in for the L5 15's? Or little to no difference at all?

(...I don't care for SQ, just SPL)

Sell the amp and get a one ohm stable amp. That is your best course of action. And safest.

The difference would be lame if you ran 2 subs on the same power that you were running a single sub. You're increasing cone area but also now splitting the power between the 2 subs. Gotta add more power along with that 2nd sub.

My guess is you will still see the same large voltage drops after switching to 1/0 wire. Are all of your connection points rock solid? Big 3...
