my pen has run dry, the ink coagulated into

a gelatin state similiar in substance to the mind

of a genius who refused to believe in love

until he became far too ignorant to comprehend

the purpose behind giving yourself unconditionally.

ive attempted this; embarked on a journey

starting at the soul of your shoes, working its way

up the arteries, to and through the aorta and

in and out of your heart in one beat

well, not including the bassline, now transfigured as

a brisk snap of the fingers, solemnly destroying

any hope of picking up the ruins and erecting pillars

to support the weight of my regrets.

i would need atlas to keep me above-ground.

its amazing that the innocence of remembering

how things once were can be disguised in lies

hiding the bitter truths i have known all along

but wouldnt accept until it was entirely too late

to forge a new foundation out of lust.

all i have ever known came from the tenth edition

of you, foreword eros, et al.

fortunately, a new half-price bookstore opened up

right around the block from my therapist

perhaps i should take her advice and exchange

this worn-out, tattered, coffee-stained magna opus

for a reading in reasoning, foreword common sense.
