SQ - Ultimate Goal

Okay, at the moment I am building a sealed enclosure that will be in the cab of my prelude, it will be 2 memphis mclass subs running off a mempis amp. So I am not really looking into upgrading that just yet, I think that will suffice for a decent SQ goal.

Speakers - This needs improvement.

Right now I have polk db650 6.5 coaxials in the front doors, and jbl 6.5's in the rear that have some rattle cause of a poorly made custom mount. the factory mounts call for a 5.25 speakers. They are all running off a boss 4channel amp.

Now, preludes come with a factory tweeter spot in the dashboard, my options are this.

Invest in a set of 6.5 comps with the tweeter in the dash, or keep my polk coax in the door and add tweeters to the factory spots.

If I were to add comps, which ones shoud I go for? I don't want to spend more than 100-150 dollars, I want good midbass and a crisp high.

Or should I just add tweeters, what kind?

for the rear fill, it seems that everyone is saying that rear speakers are pretty much useless in an SQ setting, so i am thinking of just filling them with 5.25's and calling it good.

Now the amp, the boss one sucks, i need a better one. Would you suggest another memphis? I hear they have clean 4channels.

if you are really planning on competing in sq....

you won't need 2 woofers.

You'll want to run active, get rid of the rear fill.

add in a time alignment processor, and a nice head unit. and you have a start

Then you'll want to change out the componets for a GOOD set of componets (morel, eclipse, scanspeak...etc etc)

not looking to compete, just want it to sound good, and i like havin' two woofers, I guess i should have been better at explaining. I knew I would miss some stuff..

holy moses morel and eclipse are pricey, this is the reason why i'm not into competing i dont have the time or money to invest in it

so, something decent that is maybe a lower grade then those manufacturers would be awesome..

holy moses morel and eclipse are pricey, this is the reason why i'm not into competing i dont have the time or money to invest in itso, something decent that is maybe a lower grade then those manufacturers would be awesome..

I have a set of pre maxxsonics MB Quart 6.5 components and they are some of the nicest lower line comps I have owned. You can still find them on ebay from time to time.

Speaker wise, Polk is great for SQ. I have Polk MOMO speakers (4x6s, 6x9s, and 6.5 components) all around and Polk SR subwoofers and the SQ is amazing. As far as amps go, Kicker has always been my preference.

probably RSD's in your price range. Also a HU with as much EQ as possible can really help get it sound very nice...

Look into building your own comp set from speakers on partsexpress (like tangband drivers) and use the money saved to go fully active. If done correctly, this method will far surpass simply picking out the comp set flavor of the month and slapping them in your car.
