Sq in substage vs frontstage

I am not going to read all the posts and discussions in this thread but will make a comment.
When I first got serious in SQ I was once told by a IASCA world champion that the sub stage is the LAST thing to worry about. I was also informed that once the front stage is dialed in a Bazooka tube for sub duty would be suffcient to take home world champion trophies. I still today believe that. Think about it.
That sound like my school of toughs, so sq in subwoofer would be a little overrated

I know Craig Romero who won the USAC finals in 1997 with Bazooka gear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gifHere is a link to an article that mentions him, but I can't find the photos //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Several years prior to that he had this wicked design that he did in someone else's vehicle with four 8'' bazooka tubes mounted in a plexiglass rack in the trunk of a Honda Accord coupe. That wasn't an SQ install but it sounded like a lot more than just four 8" bass tubes!

The Kickers, one note wonders. They're made to pound that one note that all rap songs over play.guess i'll have me a lil wall socket fun with my cvx after my sx comes in.i find what you stated to be fact.now, carry on lol

Why is the IDW15 such a desirable sub still.

I think you misread. I said install and tuning are more important the purely the SIZE of the woofer, not the actual model or brand of woofer itself.

If you would hear some of the local ricers in my area with their pre-fab L5 and L7 fart boxes, you would be able to relate to that comment! Oddly, I have been impressed with L5s and L7s in custom boxes, but they still sound slightly muddy to me. Unfortunately, I could never get my L5 sounding the way I wanted. After trying three different enclosures for my 12'' L5, I ended up selling it to a friend of mine for next to nothing, $80, with two of the three enclosures (prefab fart box and custom sealed). Another friend is using the custom ported enclosure with his 12'' L7 and he likes it. Go figure....

Don't get me wrong. My first real subs were Kicker Comp 10's. I love them. It's kind of just one of those things. They stole my sub-woofer virginity.

I also love the way they look!

But yeah, they aren't SQ oriented.

yea i decided that kicker does get loud for dmn sure, its not doin it for me though.i need loud with clarity so i can stop playin with the frequency settings lol.im hoping the sx will shine for me and get out of the one note wonders.

I ran a pair of 10" competitions from 1993 to 1996 in my college hooptie. Then from 1997 to 1999 I ran the original round 12" Solo-baric in my 1996 Thunderbird. Oddly, I found the SQ on the single 12" solo-baric to be better than the pair of 10s.

Years later, as in early 2008, I figured the L5 should be awesome since it is not the bottom of the line nor was it the top of the line. Boy was I ever wrong:crap: The L5 does one thing and one thing only, and that is play LOUD in the hip-hop bass range. I just wish I had researched it instead of impulse buying it:crazy:

:DHey fellow members //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
When i first started in car audio, my only goal was SPL. Hooking whatever i could find , adding numerous amp .. didn't give a shit about sq. Well things change and for the last year, i get rid of all the shits i had in the car and made a turn into sq lane....

since i'm going to the university i'm pretty much broke. So I usually swap my audio part one by one. Once i had the loudness i wanted on my substage (dual type r 12ch ) i decided i love loud subtage, but with crystal clear mids and highs. Anyway the first investment was getting a nice 4channel amp, that i bridge latter on and then the front stage. I went with some entry cdt's then did a direct swap with id's ctx65cs. Now that was a big improvement over what i had before...

Then a month ago i called a fiQ 18inch coz i wanted something that could sound awesome to match with my awesome sounding frontstage. I had some trouble with the box but now it's tight and well finished. I'm powering the Q with a bxi2006d. It is as loud as my type r's were and it does sound deeper a a little better , but not as much as i tought a Sq sub would sound in my mind. I'm getting few little rattling noise that i need to work on tought...

So i just wanted to know if you think that Sound Quality in Substage is overrated ... compare to the mids/high sound quality. I mean, everything sound so much more detailed on my new frontstage, you can push it without being harsh even at incredible loud level, while the sub sound nice... but nothing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif I expected more "clarity" ... still some bass line sound like sit (ie go getta from jeezy 2nd album... wtf is that??? )

I tough an sq sub would make every line sound perfect //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif It does sound a little better than the R, but mainly only deeper and lower

Compared to the Type R, i expected a bigger jump in sq. Btw my 18" Q box is 6.6ft/cu tuned to 29hz. I may be sealing the Q soon for sq sake

just my 2 cents, comment please

Not only does lil wayne sound like a tard high off a cocktail of whiskey and horse tranquilizers who just had all wisdom teeth pulled, but rap really doesn't have much use in tuning for SQ. It's all artificial sound. In fact it has almost nothing to do with sound quality. SQ means music reproduced the same as it would be heard live in real life. You can't judge that with synthesized sounds. And throwing 2000 watts at a 18 to 'keep up' with a front stage doesn't cut it either. That doesn't mean you cant do SQ with a 15 or an 18, but you have to be thinking about balance even when selecting your components. No one component works in a vaccum. Each sound you hear is composed of a primary frequency range then a few other frequencies that contribute to that sound, helping to 'shape' it and 'color' it. If there isn't any real balance there things get muddy. You may think the problem is with the driver that supposed to produce a given frequency range, it could be that or how it's blending with the rest of the system.

Still when a producer "write" bass line, he makes them different appart. A bass line that hit in the 20s ain't suppose to sound like a 60hz+... so don't say sq is inexistant from your definition coz there's still a way it's intend to sound. And wtf is wrong with blending the system with a gain knob under your finger. You people seems to think that you can't eq or ajust that substage loudness which is totally wrong! I ain't predenting to be a professionnal audiophile, but i know what sound got to me. Sharp bass, sharp midbass, midrange, and crystal clear highs, even if a USac judge find it's not perfecly flat , might sound good to me.

So when don't feel bass head, i just lower my remote gain knob , to blend the substage with the rest so it doesn't "mud" the rest of the system. that's all. An there's not clipping when you know how to set the gain at the amplifier using a remote knob... wtf was that comment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Yeah, no one has ever won a sound quality championship with a Kicker subwoofer.

Oh, wait...... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
