SPLs and loud??

I have a trailblazer with a JL-audio 500/5 amp. I have 4 JL speakers in the doors (front and rear). I added a JL-audio stealthbox which is a shallow sidemount enclosure with 10"sub.

Is there a a proper way to test DBs?

I have a cheap sound level meter and I just pulled up a dynamic song and cranked it up with meter laying on center console. The results were 118 db for that song.

Is this the proper way to get a reading and should that be considered typical for 500 watts of power and a small sub??

I thought I remember seeing someone else with a trailblazer doing 140's. I consider the system pretty nice but realize its not gonna run with the big dogs with big enclosures.

your gonna need to get tested by a real meter, like a TL i the most accurte

If you're not planning on competing, I really wouldn't worry about it.

Yea I really dont care. Not competing thats for sure.

Was just more curious what was normal process.
