SPL with a single 8" Sub... More sound with less.

So out of curiosity, why didn't you just go with a well established sub (not to be a ****) like an SA-8 or DD 1508? While (from what some testers have told me) the SA-8 may not handle more than 600-700wrms out of the box without a recone, both of those subs are known to perform at tremendous levels, and don't really cost more than $200 each (assuming you get a recone on the SA-8 with upgraded parts for about $60-70).
Also would like to say, interesting thread, I like to see people screwin' around with 8s. Also, thread would be much better with pix //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I was looking for a sub that would handle more than a sa-8. Because im doing 139.9 bassrace I needed my power handing to be as high as possible. (not 800rms otherwise I would have gone with a sa-8). Idk where splaudio is coming up with 800rms but he must have me confused with another customer. Its very frustrating arguing over this.. When funds allow ill be running 2 s2w8's (made by cadence) to get a 139.9 im thinking. Because clearly im not going to get a sub from splaudio that handles what its supposed to. Im going to try a couple more things to get my cvl louder. Thinking I may try a long 6" port.

if im not mistaken Corey said that he would build you the high excursion 8 you thought you asked for for 90 more (im assuming thats including shipping both ways)

use that as a base to start with and work from there.

and luminator you brought it public its too late to go back now. have it out in front of everyone like a real man.

yup i said $90 that encludes shipping to him. that would be a taller basket that i do a lil maching to along with basket risers so the spider can actually drop down below the basket for clearence //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

it would use larger spiders too.

Deal, so now were both happy. It was my understanding that you were going to build the same sub again and this is not what I had wanted. Ill cover shipping to you. Only reason I brought it public is so that I wouldnt have to argue to get this result. Ill lift the PP dispute.

same motor different basket and the rest parts too. im waiting on my cones is all to come in.

do you want this sub in d4 so you can set ur amp rite and run at 2ohm this will give the sub more than enough power and dampening factor wont be cut in half.

gonna take me a bit to machine the part and put it together and i am going to test in my car b4 i ship it out...

If you do D4 ill want it to be as efficient as possible with 1000 watts of power on tap. Idk if itll get me a 139.9 bassrace but I can easily 129.9 bassrace now sealed up on 500 watts with the cvl. http://www.facebook.com/v/3027720811553. And for bassrace I cant realistically throw more than 1000 at the sub and if I did the coil wouldnt last long so what would the point be. Im gonna try a new box design as well. Its something a little bit different but I have a feeling it will be very effective.

Well I pretty much had to do all the compromising. Which all in all isnt a compromise. But I suppose this will do.

For the record, I did check my gain and it was at 28V AC at volume 22. Which is actually under 1000rms at 1 ohm. So we established that the sub does indeed handle 800rms (just a shy bit under) before bottoming out which is what spl audio claimed he told me he rated it at. However, The sub was originally meant to handle 1000rms at least this is what I was told.
