SPL... well sorta

I'm looking for a SPL setup, but one that also has SOME sq.

I'm between a Fi SSD wired @1 ohm or a Type R @1 ohm. Which would be the better choice? I'm trying to save as much money as I can, so I'm kinda leaning towards the Type-R unless the SSD goes way past it in most categories.

Also I'm only running one sub because of space restraints, so they'll be in a 2.5 gross cubes box

If you have any suggestions that can handle 1000w and are 1 ohm stable throw em at me

Single 12 in a daily application in a relatively small enclosure on low power and SPL have NOTHING to do with one another. Nothing you put in there is going to be all that loud without sounding like crap. Sounds to me like you want something that will be "loud" for your daily driver in the small space you have available, nothing to do with SPL. Most companies have a speaker to fit this range, depends what you'd like. Sundown SA12, FI SSD/BL, AQ SDC 2.5 (you don't have space for that one). In your specific case, I'd go with the SA12. It'll play higher up a little better than the SSD will and that will make it seem a little louder for a daily app.

Could the SA12 handle 1000w? I heard they were underrated but by 400w?

Sa series can sound great not true sq great but they can play all types of music nicely in a proper ported enclosure.. So can any good sub nowadays though.. And sa's can take some power I had two on kicker kx 2500@1ohm for an example I could play a whole song full tilt and the dust caps still wouldn't be warm

Even though sa subs cwn handle 1000-1500w it really isnt a good idea for daily 800w sure 900 ok but 1000 is the safety threshold. I would look into the american bass xfl line. They can sound great in a good box and with a 3inch voice coil they can handle 1kw to 2kw of power. If you do go this route get the new basket model as they like smaller boxes a lil more.

another option would be the dc lvl4, incriminator death row, ssa icon, sundowns new x series, the ssd or q from fi, adescent audio chaos, dayton ho, and dd3500 newest edition likes smaller boxes.

I was looking at the SSD, and it really tops my budget because Fi charges 40 to ship to me. DC quoted me 265 shipped for a lvl 3, do you think they'd do 250 shipped?

dc is well different than most companies they will only ship to u if you dont have a dealer close by and usually you get a better price buying direct. if i were you i would call them up and ask if they could spare the 15bucks of shipping maybe they will maybe they wont. you can get an xfl for less than 250 shipped though as well as the dayton ho which is a very good sq driver that has a decent ability to get loud.

one thing to remember about fi is the build time some people wait months for there subs some mere days. this is the reason i dont mess with them.

i might would search the classifieds here for a good used sub. guys on here dont usually keep subs for long and tend to want to trade up even though there sub is still in excellent condition.

I found a guy selling practically mint lvl 4's, but he's selling two and hasnt replied on whether or not he'll part them. i kinda want the lvl 3 because they dont want a too big a box.
