Spl tips

My #1 tip for SPL

Don't treat your vibration damping as an afterthought. To get the most out of your damper, you need to install it beofre you build your box and before you figure outthe resonant frequency of your car.

Most people build the box and tune according to the resonanat frequecy, THEN add the sound deadening once they realize how much vibration and unwated flex they have. In some cases adding vibration mat to an already tuned system can lower your score.

In some cases the score might go up but mostly, this is just luck.

Losing a few points when deadening is added is rarely the fault of the vibration damper, and usually the fault lies in the lack of priority that was placed upon the damper.

By treating the vibrating sheet metal with the sound deadener first, then builing and tuning your box according to the newly altered resonance frequecy, you insure that you will not lose any deebeez, and will get the most out of your system.

That my tip for SPL.

The biggest gain your gonna get first off is buying a Termlab meter. It's useless to not have one or easy access to one if you're doing SPL. I wouldn't put sound deadener in any of my SPL vehicles until I have my equipment, a meter, and the box mostly finished.

I agree.

it all goes hand in hand. its nice to have everything your going to need at the beginning. termlab for sure. big difference maker. there isnt one thing you can ignore. voltage is a big deal. running as many runs of wire as you can is usually helpful. especially in classes limited on battery amounts.

deadener is a huge deal. i put a layer on...test. add another layer.....test. i also do the same thing with my enclosure. start off at 10in of port depth. test. cut an inch off....test so on and so forth.

none of these can be ignored.

also small things that will make you gain big: resining your box. and then waxing it. pvc on all port pieces. that can gain you a full db in cases. messing with internal angles in boxes. that is a huge one. cut strips of wood in say 2 degree intervals and put them in port corners and test them. could make a huge difference. mic placement can make a big difference. you could move the mic 6 inches up and gain .5 basically test everything in you vehicle. lol. and your deck settings

i might add i gaind 1.4 from deadening my passenger door. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif LOL. but it takes the most beating out of everything in my truck. except my back wall maybe

There was a thread a while back on this...bunch of good info...search for it.

And who said SUVs with no sunroof....shoot, those areeee the ones too get.

They have better bracing than one without it, at least in Explorers that is.

where all would i need to place deadener in my durango also ive seen people like build stuff in there box where inside the box they have a piece of wood going across in the middle of the box behind the speaker magnets with holes in it what does that do
