spl box in 02 escape

i built a new amp/battery rack and the new dimensions im working with are 28x28x20h. currently using a single 15, but open also to a 2 12 design suggestion. right now im using a box with 3 cubes internal after displ. with a single external 7.5 inch sonotube port (temporary for adjustments). it is tuned at 41 hz, and peaks about 48. the car peaks about 44-48 depending on enclosures. this box just isnt getting the desired results, and a larger enclosure wasnt doing the trick either. btw sub is up, port is facing back. the external aero is about 18 inches right now. the intention of this build is spl, not concerned with sq out of this box. power will be coming from a pair of xsite xad2k amps. thanks for any help, this vehicle has been stressful to get where i want it.
