speech to persuade

hey anyone here ever taken speech class for college and have to do a speech to persuade? i'm interested to know what topics peopple have used.. im having trouble thinking of a topic i find interesting and am knowledgable in. if you don't know what the assignment is i have to make a 6 minute speech and try to persuade people to do or believe something. for example, legalize marijuana! but im not going to do that subject thats too liberal and overdone. thanks for any help please be serious.

Those arent quite so ridiculous.......the people who made those laws necessary NEED to be fined or ticketed.

honestly, i just want to do something very simple and easy (so it won't be a problem remembering a lot of facts and so i wont have to read the speech off the paper word by word) but at the same time its gotta be something that us guys will want to talk about. i dont want to make a speech about outlawing same-*** marriages, abortion, the environment or anything girly if u know what i mean.. i could do it on maybe on why u should wear seat belts but that was an example given in class.. so maybe something having to do with cars.. maybe i should persuade them to do something thatll make gas prices go down? but what could i propose?

seriously.. if you just do it on like why your state is the best.. most people will agree with you and you can just talk about the state history crap you learned in HS and any tourist attractions. Very easy.

holy crap thats a brilliant idea. i think im going to do that for sure. thanks a lot man i really appreciate it.. took a LOAD off my shoulder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif now i have to put a little research in it.. but first should i do it on san diego is the best city or california is the best state? i could say san diego has the best weather and use weather conditions and hypothetic scenarios to support my thesis. or should i just go with california is the best state? im going to need stats and supporting evidence.. maybe i should start a thread to survey people out of state what they like about california specifically compared to their state.. i would really need to refute the counter-argument that the thesis is subjective if i do this topic.. any ideas?

Those are all great ideas, but what ever you choose be sure to include that San Diego is home to Shamu the whale.. therefore the best.

hahah wow i actually just had to write the same exact speech, well its due friday but I had to present what i had so far today.

well I just did mine on why people should stay in school and pursue higher education. Basically I knew most of the reasons because I am a student and then I just found some statistics and facts...like holding a college degree will almost double your yearly salary vs. not holding one, also I just found some quotes about education that famous people said, in a paragraph to disprove what opposers might say I used a quote from a bob dillion song, the quote was 20 years of schooling, and they still just give you the day shift.

that was actually one of my first ideas i had planned but then the teacher specifically said it wouldnt be in our best interest to choose "why you should go to school" because we're already in a classrom at school and she said it'd be like going to the gym and telling people that working out is good for you.

that sounds like a good and simple topic but i never participated in sports/clubs in high school and especially not now, so for me to make a speech on that would be kinda fake. the teacher advised we do a speech about something people could believe were sincere about. and quite frankly, i can't be sincere about stressing the importance of sports/groups.
