soundstream xxx 4000 at low ohm? and how do they do under 14 volt?

anyone have experience with these amps? how do the preformer at lower ohms? a friend of mine said hes seen alot blow but arent they competiton built? any experience with them? how do they like 12 volt? i can get one for my 1500 plus cash im wondering if i should or not

What ohm load are you planning of running the XXX at? These things are current hogs.

I've had the 6500 and the 10k before and wired to 0.5ohm with no problems. But yea you need a good battery setup for these amps.

Thats why i was asking what ohm load. 4ohm or 2ohm won't be that bad. But if he drops to 1 or .5, he better have the electrical to back it up. These amps do not like anything below 12v. You hit 11.8 and poof.

You read it the same way I did the first time. He doesn't have $1500. Hes trading his 1500 watt amp plus cash...lol

i assume he meant his 1500 watt amp plus cash for the xxx . ive had the same amp and i found out after that the boards vibrations issues causeing the amp to fry. something came lose and caused chain reaction .

the older planet audio vx 2200 has the same board iirc

You better be able to support uber inefficient current hog status if you want to run one at a low impedance. Impedance wise, where exactly do you plan to run it?

1 ohm and below they become exponentially more current hogs. No, not truly exponentially more, but it is pretty drastic. They also tend to run quite warm to begin with, and much more so at low impedance.

So, a big ol' bank of batteries that can keep voltage ~12V+ and extra cooling for the amplifier should do it. But in my experience, none of the SS XXX amplifiers last long at low daily impedance. Solely for burps? That's a different story...
