Sound Quality Sub with Punch Running on 200W

Hi there,

Well I have decided not to go with the custom setup with heavy duty subs for my truck, I have decided to save that for my future car (Mercedes 300SD). Anyways I just want a nice sounding sound quality system as I will be spending alot of time in this truck anyways, I have a couple amps already but I think that I am going to go with my Xtant 403A to power my components then a sub. So it will be a good 200W(underrated) going to this sub, so I was wondering what sub would be a good choice to go with, I listen to alot of metal, old metal, classic rock, and alot of drums and wailing guitars. So I want something that will keep up with any drums that I throw at it and also have a bit of punch to it, not much though. My buddy has a couple of JL W0s and they had plenty of bass for me, actually too much at alot of times, but when you threw any kind of drums at them, they wouldnt keep up worth of shit. So I dont need much bass. I havent decided on the components yet but I like the CDT HD-62s, DLS UP6s, and the Diamond D661s. If you guys could recommend me a sub for what I am looking for that would be great, and also something that isnt too expensive neither like I said I am not going to be spending a terrible amount of money on this system, so more can go into the cars system. Thanks.

I like the looks of that IDQ 10inch. Would that still have some thump to it when my gf gets in and pops in her rap music though? And would that sub sound good with some Metallica, Megadeth, or old sabbath in there?

Anyways thanks for all the replies.

the IDQ's are pure sq subs. i would prolly go with the 12, or a pair of 10s

but from the look of it you only have 200w (350 rms on these) so you have a bit of breathing room for them) so a single 12 should do it for you...

but im not sure about your girlfriend lol, but the stereo is for you - not her //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

do what makes you happy with it, and tell her to get her own bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

or go my route, and just put bass in her car for her //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

LOL when I had my jeep wrangler I had an enclosure with 2 x 10" JL w0 subs, the cheapest JL's. I got both for like 140 bucks. I faced them torwards the tailgate of wrangler with about 3" gap between subs and tailgate.

I powered them with a Sony 50watt x 2 amp LOL and I'm not lying they hit GOOD. SQ was pretty good and this was driving with the top down and going 60+ mph and I still heard them good. Its all in the sub and positioning.

Ya you guys are right F@$# her lol. But anyways that is what I am looking for is something that will hit quick and work on that 200W. It definately has to have better SQ than a JLW0, but it doesnt have to hit near as hard as they do. Do you think that the IDQ will do this, or should I just go with the new v.3 of the regular ID? What about those other subs mentioned? The RL-I10 or RL-P12? What about anything from the RE line? Should I pick out my components first then decide which sub to get as to match them up by frequency charts? I could get a harder hitting sub that goes lower, but I would just have to find some components with alot of midbass and cross them over really low, I dont know if I can do that though with component set with a passive, I guess since the sub is seperate I can cant I? Anyways thanks for all the help guys, like I said this is just going to be a nice good sounding system for me running off of one amp, the big system will be in the car, I am thinking up some crazy ideas there for really quick hard hitting bass along with amazing sound. Thanks again.

Okay from you guys suggestions and a search through quite a few threads I have made up a list of subs that I should consider. Here it is....

Image Dynamics IDQ 10

Incriminator Audio 187

Lethal Injection

Soundsplinter RL-i

Phoenix Gold Octane R12D

OZ Matrix Elite

Dayton HF

Avalanche

Dayton Titanic MK111

Diamond D6

Kicker Solobaric 10inch

Adire Shiva 10

Arc Audio Arc 10"

Infinity Perfect

Elemental Design 11kv2

I really like the looks of the soundsplinters though, I guess the RL-i8s are a really nice sub. But I am wondering if one of them would provide enough thump for my system, from what I have read they hit HARD. Space is not an issue at all, what woudl you guys do, 8 or 10? or get something from the list above? Thanks.

first off, Goood car very Good car.

as mentioned above, i say a 12" IDQ sealed, but porting it low will also be awesome, due to the fact that there is a gas tank between the trunk and the cabin.

A LI would also be amazing (i got one in my 300D //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif)

An IDQ would be a nice sub for the application. The IDv3 has more excursion so it will have more output capability than the IDQ, but it also requires a larger box. I'll leave the speculation as to which has better SQ to others, as that boils down to personal taste. But I can say the IDQ has been a proven winner in the SQ lanes for years, and Im confident it would have no trouble keeping up with the fast bass in metal music. If I were in your shoes Id definitely be looking at those two subs.

I also feel xbl^2 enabled subs handle faster paced rock music excellently. A used (or new old stock) Adire Koda 10 would also be a great choice imo.

The Adire Shiva was only available in the 12" version iirc. If you mean the new ones, I have no idea, but I dont think they are out yet. Adire new lines coming out show a promising array of subs, but they are mostly all on the horizon still.

IMO the Maxtrix Elite is one of the best bang for your buck 'supersubs' out there right now. But I dont know if I would go that big on the sub with only 200 watts. Id probably stick with something a bit smaller like the IDQ/IDv3 or Koda(s).

Flakko- This system will be going into my truck... lol and if you like diesels its the old 12V Cummins (drool). Like I said, the more expensive system which will be all custom picked out drivers will be going into the 300sd, and I know, good car very goood car lol. I have been looking at them for a while, my whole family all has the diesel mercedes (1984 190D, 1992 300D, 1993 300D) but I realllly love the presence of the W126 chassis, and I guess they are the most beautifully handling cars there is as the chassis is really stiff on them, and there is a reallly low centre of gravity, just beautiful cars, so it deserves a beautiful system. Anyways I am blabbing too much about the mercedes.

It seems everybody is recommending the Image Dynamics lines of subs for what I am going for, would they be alot better than the soundsplinters, or the DLS reference series of subs? At the power that I am feeding it? I think that the 3rd channel on the Xtant can only do 200W at 2ohm, I dont know if you can run it at 1ohm, or .5 or not. Mabye.... Anyways thanks for your replies. This forum is always lots of help because around here anybody I ask about subs they just say JL is the best, or Alpine, but they have never heard of DLS, Rainbow, Dynaudio, Image Dynamics and the like...

Thanks again.

if it were me, it would be between the IDQ and the RL-I. those are the only two that i can see that excell in smaller sealed boxes and ~200w.
