This pic ruined my Ipod
Disclaimer: this idea will sound ghetto.
I'm about to come into possession of a JL 12w6v2. At the moment, I have 2 type R's in a sealed enclosure. I wanted more SQ so that's why I'm getting the 12w6v2, but I can only afford one. I'll end up with a dual-12 inch sealed enclosure with only 1 sub in it (ghetto.. i know. it gets worse.)
So here's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking either a) sell my Type-R subs, save up money and eventually get a 2nd 12w6v2 and a new amp ($$$$ i don't have) or I've been thinking of taking this other box I have (sealed, for two 12's) and putting the JL sub in there, cutting a hole to make it into a 2.5 cu ft. and... here it comes.. use the 2nd hole for a Passive Radiator.
I even have one in mind.. Boston Acoustic's G5-based passive radiator. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-j5dEMpX74vb/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=065GTR12&search=Boston+Acoustics
It just looks like it might be a not-so-bad match. It would look ghetto, but the best bass I've ever heard came from 2 home speakers with 4 15" (2 active, 2 passives). The sound was extremely smooth and realistic.. I loved it.
so.. I guess I want opinions on this. I'm not some caraudio noob, I've done my research about this (i know I should get a larger than 12 inch PR and that i need a different kind of enclosure, specific and tuned to the drivers) but I guess I wanted to hear opinions on how this might sound.
