sony xploid amp yay or nay

so are these amps good/bad/ok?? lmk. there is one listed on craigslist it is a 1200 w sony xploid amp and 2 12" sony xploid subs for $150 i am mostly just interested in the amp not subs. any insight would be greatly appreciated. what would be a good asking price for just the amp? thanks

it is 300 watt sony amp, 1200 max or whatever they could get out of the board at 20% THD while they spray it with freon.

I would ask.... for someone to take it from me and not tell that I had it.

Maybe $50, for 75-100 you could do a lot better, they release the magic smoke alot.

AQ 1200rms at 1 ohm is only $250.

Cadence txa 1000 is like $100-$200 online and does 3 times the power of that.

I'll get shit for sayin this, but my visonik 318xt puts out easily 800 rms at 2 ohms, up to around 1000 without audible clipping, and I got it for 45 bucks...

and yes I measured it, not just guessing or anything, I'd definitely recommend it as a cheap mono amp

ive heard mixed things on the amps so i figured i would at least ask. but could some one link me to the Cadence txa 1000 i am new to car audio so i have just been lurking trying to find the facts

I wouldn't do it, those amps overheat easy and will make you mad lol. If it's the 1200w max amp, it's 400wrms (it is cea compliant too I believe).

I would save your money for something better imo.

just with a dmm, 44+ volts before audible clipping, went up to 47 (with clipping)

At 44 volts its putting out 968 watts rms at 2 ohms

No, thats not right. You would need to have the amp bench tested to get an accurate rating. I could crank up the gain on my Kicker and I could have a DMM read 100 volts That doesnt mean the amplifier will make the formulated power your coming up with. You have gain setting voltage confused with bench testing your amp. You take your amp vs. my Kicker 750 and you will understand the difference, my Kicker was benched at @930 watts.

If its a matter of not knowing whether its clipping or not...I can clearly hear when it starts to clip and before it does the signal sounds the same (distortion wise) from minimum gain up to that point.

Im not saying you are or are not clipping. Im saying that is not how you test what kind of power an amplifier makes. You could take it a reputable car audio dealer and have that amplifier bench tested to find out truely, how much power you are making. Im sorry but if your amplifier really made that kinda of power everybody would have one because of the low price. Im not trying to bash you or your amplifier.

I just don't understand what a car audio dealer is going to do to it that I can't. They will be able to measure scientifically whether it is clipping or not, and will be able to measure how many amps are being run, but what else? If I'm seeing a solid continuous 44 volts out of it, how can that be anything but 968 watts at 2 ohms? Is it not simple laws of electricity?
