some dash lights out after best buy installed a stereo

Has anyone maybe seen this before? They couldn't fix it and now they're putting me through this process of getting multiple estimates to fix it. I'm hoping maybe it's an easy fix.

So, there are 4 lights in my dash. The far right one did not go out but the other three did. Then, all of a sudden, another one of them just came on when I was driving home. So, now 2 are not lit and 2 are. I can see half of the speedometer.

I checked all the fuses and they're fine. Nothing else seems to be impacted. The guy said he disconnected the dimmer wire but it didn't change anything. It's a 2002 saturn SL.

So they messed it up and now you are going to pay for it?

Sounds like you have a bad ground to the accesory wire they used as an ignition turn on wire.

This will cut the power due to not being able to clear power and is causing electrical malfunctions.

Or you have bad relays and/or you fried your buld connectors in your dash

Ok, thanks for the info. Think I'll just take it to a mechanic because I don't want to be pulling all of that apart and mess it up even more. They said they would pay for it but they want multiple estimates first. They acted like they had no clue how that could happen and definitely had no idea how to fix it.

Cheapest and easiest for "bestbuy" is to completely remove what has been done and see if it fixes the issue.

And get your money back. This would be much easier and faster to see if the install is the reason

Probably caused when they disconnected the battery calling all DTC's to light up whenever this happens. Try cycling through your ignition a couple of times, sometimes this will correct itself seeing that you have a stable power source again. I hope we're on the same page, you are talking about idiot lights like the check engine lights?

I'm not talking about the idiot lights, I'm talking about the illumination lights. The ones that let me see things like the speedometer at night.

I saw a saturn forum with a few people having issues but theirs really didn't match mine and there's not really any solid solutions that I found.

They probably screwed up the connection to the wiring harness connector if it's a thin film connection. No lights means no power supplied to the bulb if bulbs are ok, then they should look where the power stops in that line with a test light looking for the break. I strongly believe it has to do with the dimmer since he tapped in for your systems illumination function. Loosing connection partially to a system means it's not securely connected.

pull out the radio and cut the orange or orange white wire........one is positive trigger and one is negative your they probably hooked up the wrong one.....if still not working look for fuse, then test switch most likely burnt out illumination circuit on light switch. either way talk to a manager in the store and they will cover you...if they give you trouble say your going to call corporate then you will get what you want at no cost i guarantee it.
