solo-x vs 5000SPL

flipx99..of your choices, the 10 or 12" solo x would be my choice. in a daily application, 1500wrms is plenty, with the right box. and with 3 cubes +, i'd suggest the 12" version. make sure u have a subsonic filter, and have it on. consistant playing below tuning (these things drop low like mad) will tear up a surround, lol, i've killed a few. otherwise, 1.5k for daily is perfect for them. (though 2.5k would be better..lol)

What do you mean have the subsonic filter "on"? Mine has a range of 15 - 40 hz. Which would create a higher SPL, the 10 or the 12? I like the idea of going with a 10. Hitting pretty high numbers with just a 10 would be kinda cool.

u have two 12's in a sealed box getting a rated "1100wrms"..that totals 550 per driver...or only 50 watts above rated...they had better be laughing at u. sendign 50 watts more then rated isn't exactly what i would call "overpowering".
and i doubt the lanzar is doing a full 1100...

Yeah said they were laughing at me but never said I was overpowering them. Was trying to get that they can take alot more power. Thanks Dr Philonics

on, as in having it set to ur tuning frequency. my last solo x 10 let go off it's surround after doing several (as in several hundred, lol) demo's around 25-30hz, even though the box was tuned to 36hz. ppl were simply amazed that a single ten (in 2.25ft^3, 45in^2 of port) could drop that low, and be that loud. (ran off an orion 2500d at 1 ohm). my own fault, lol, but man it was fun!

in theory, the 12 would create more spl due to increased cone area. but, like you, i like the idea of creating big scores with little subs. and with the power u have, the ten (even though it's the exact same motor/coil as the 12, the slightly lighter weight of the ten will help) would be the better choice. but this is solo x, not L7.

i honestly wouldn't run 1500 wrms to a single 10 or 12 L7 for DD. IMO, u're asking for trouble.

awww..but how can u say that when u're barely giving them rated? the way u were typing suggested that u were just absolutely slamming them with "1100" watts...as in 1100 watts each. i read ur sig, and then laughed at u as well.

but no biggie bro. ppl are going to keep reading that type r's can handle 1kwrms+ in daily applications, they are going to try it themselves (and not know what the heck they are doing) and they are going to keep popping them. and the bandwagon will get another flat tire. it's a good thing they can be had for cheap, eh?

but 1500 daily isnt really 1500 daily especially if you are wise to the fact you push things to the limit the limit will be broke. mild gain setting for daily use with some common sense should yeild a higher lane score. id rather have the capabilty to push the woofers limits than to hear it regular since we are talking about lane scores. neither idea is bad where one will be more durable the other should definatly score higher

so the subsonic filter should be set to the same frequency as the box is tuned. What about the LPF? I guess it's now between the 10 and the 12. Either way looks like a good bet.

and u have set upon the fault of the majority of ppl, especially at this forum, lack of common sense.

flip....set ur LPF to the upper limit of what u want the sub to play, typically between 80-120hz, depending upon how strong ur midbass/ range is.

yuh but its also why people ask why their mac daddy woofers get beat on by cheap woofers. if you are wanting that route learn it then do it. i wount argue the fact of being more bullet proof just pushing the edges lessens it
