Yeah, what Jack Frost said. rs 2332 and 484 and 533 are all different serial interfaces. They are implemented on high end home audio and home automation products. It would be the equivalent of Unilink (actually Unilink is based on a 232 serial interface) for Sony and Alpine changers.... that kind of idea. It lets the control system talk to the other components and the other components can provide feed back.
Its very robust and reliable... would come in really handy for remote mounting all of the equipment in the trunk and having one wireless touchpanel with a dock in the dash. Then the panel still shows all the track names on-states, amp temps, etc without you needing to see the actual components.
