yes i have as a matter of fact i have read it several times before and im not saying it soley because of size. I'm saying a 20" wheel doesnt add much more mass than a 17 or a 16. hell i put solid rims on my car and i bet the difference per corner was wel under 5lbs thats why i said i would change it to a bigger rim size because then you get the mass that you need to see a real difference.
matter of fact i bet **** near any asanti or any high end 3 piece 20" wheel weighs less than a stock 16" steelie
So while i agree with what your saying about adding mass i dont agree that a 20" is enough to add that mass
You should go check wheel weights, then.
A 20" wheel that is cast and chrome plated adds a CONSIDERABLE amount of mass.
One example.
My monoblocks on the Maxima were 20x8.5's that weighed 26lbs and 20x9.5's that weighed 28lbs.
Mounted on 225/35/20 Nexen N3000s and 245/35/20 Nexen N3000s, I was looking at around 61lbs after approriate tire pressure.
My factories were 31lbs combined.
That's an excess of 30lbs PER CORNER. All but doubling the weights.
I'm sorry, but if that's not adding a considerable enough mass for you... then you shouldn't be in the thread.
Of course, it is ALWAYS far excessive with larger sizes, because mass is relative to size in steel.
Your talking about asanti's? I've mounted a few sets. They are not as light as you may think. No one wants to spend an excess of $1000 per wheel and then have a lip bend, or the hoop collapse. Also, how many people do you see rolling Asanti's? Usually when you see them, they are NOT on daily driven cars.
