So who knows a lot about computers?

I've found that for most business apps, it doesn't matter how many cores a processor has. Who really need dual processing on most of todays apps. Now in gaming it makes a huge differrence. I also run some CAD software that benefitted from dual processors.

My home internet desktop is still running an AMD 2500+ Barton and works perfectly fine for what I use it for.

Yeah, its running Vista, my old lap had XP Home. I thought they worked out all the bug in Vista by now and it was pretty good? The new lap has 2 Gigs of RAM installed already, I'll really need more?

in the beginning no, but the more shit you install the slower it will be.

There were some bug fixes, but it will still take some getting used to. It's useable don't get me wrong, but it is a memory hog.

A user at my job had an issue with an IBM running vista where it did in his hard drive. He only had one gig of RAM and I guess Vista uses a chunk of hard drive space and uses it as ram. I guess from constant use the HD failed from that. When we had it serviced the tech said that he hat to put at least 3 gigs for it to run like it should. but again it depends a lot on what you are using it for. You said you have a desktop, so pissing around on here and stuff like that you should be ok. But the guy I was talking about uses it as his work pc. Always on and running multiple apps at once and all of that.

Newer CPUs have much improved architectures, motherboard chipsets, and memory to work with. As a result, they're able to process more instructions per clock cycle while consuming less power and producing less heat. Also, as they're produced using a smaller process, they're able to put multiple processing cores on a single die, allowing the CPUs to more efficiently process multiple threads at once.
