So-So Sound quality from my new Pioneer P780MP

Nothing too fancy. I was trying building my system on a budget.

Up front: a set Infiniti Reference Components

In the back: a set of Infiniti Coaxials

and an Pheonix Gold Octane 804 amp to powwer them.

2 12" JL Audio W2s in a sealed box power by an Pheonix gold Tantrum 500.2

I'm still trying to dial in my 780MP. I had a Kenwood X959 with a Pioneer 7600 EQ in my old car. I'd been thinking of going Alpine in the new car, but fell in love with the 780MP when I saw it had a built-in 16 band EQ. I miss changing EQ presets with one button push, sniff. I wish the default EQ presets were the same as on the 7600, where you have the rock, jazz, vocal settings, etc... I'm not finding any of the defaults on the 780MP to my liking as an option.

Thank god for credit card remotes! I'd missed using a remote with the x959, it was too darn big.

Well I just installed mine this monday and I'm still learning all the bells and whistles. My subwoofers dont sound as deep as they used to. I have the LPF on the HU set to 80 but they dont sound as deep as they used to with my other deck. anyone knows what could be wrong? on the good side of things my front stage sound way better .

Maybe your bass is just MORE accurate now.???

If your sub amp is the same then you shouldn't be missing any power. Did you check your subwoofer level on your deck.?? Did you check the gains on that amp? Maybe with your last deck you had the gains turned way down and now they need to come up a little.

what, they aren't there anymore?

hey, there still there

Should be able to just push the Audio button and then scroll through the presets if its anything like my 860. But then again maybe Pioneer changed everything.

Not really sure what the big deal is about that anyway, those presets always have been worthless as far as I'm concerned.

Well Adam it does sound more accurate but not as deep. Maybe I have to lower the gains . I havent had time to set the gains. I'm using same amp and everything. My old deck is a deh6400.

Turning down the gains will make the bass lower in volume which is not what you want is it?? Also, when your bass is more accurate it will seem to not be as deep because it is tighter and more punchy as opposed to being muddy which gives the impression of being deeper. So if you don't feel like you're getting enough then turn the gain up a little and go from there.

i wonder why. i can see if u said it wasn't as loud,b ut not as deep seems to be a problem.

keep in mind how long it takes to get a kenwood to sound good.

live with it for a few weeks, tweak the hell out of it

i just finally got my xxv-01d to sound the way i wanted, got the midbass down perfectly, after like 6 weeks of owning it, and now after i disconnected all my stuff to intsall my new alternator, it's starting over from scratch. It sounds like poop all over.

Seems like the more settings a deck has, the crappier it sounds out of the box.

im extremely happy with my 780. i wasnt too impressed at first, but after becoming familiar with the EQ it just keeps getting better. its got some advanced features, and it takes some time to set them up to your liking. deffinetly a step up from my last head unit.

Yeah I know what you mean. I have a Kenwood excelon and it sounds fabulous. I did take some time to get it there. I would think your new pioneer would be the same. Lots of time and tweeking but it is worth it. Good luck!
