My friends sub smoked.. like REALLY bad... but it didnt blow... and it works perfectly fine.... but what happened..??

He has alil bit of saw dust in his box... did it get really hot in there... and it burn? or did the tensel leads/voicecoil heat up? this is news to me....

I guess im alittle confused... ive had/dont a good deal of systems for me.... and all of my buddys....

WHAT does it mean to have the impediance rise in the box...

HOW can that affect what is PHYSICALLY wired...?

I was asking about the impedance of the coil(s) did it/they raise at all?

from say 3.6 to 4.0?

my kappa's did that before they died, the coils still had continuity, but the subs were ****ed...

It sounds like the voice coil and tinsel leads just heated up and burned some excess glue or something. If it still works fine, I wouldn't worry about it too much, maybe just turn the gains down a tad.

His gain isnt set right... but i fixed it.... just wondered if there was something to "look" for later on to see if it affected anything.. the tensel leads are perect.... checked the wireing and everything to make sure it was still connected.... it all seems perfect... his cone was hot as hell tho... prolly heated up and meated the dust... or the tensel leads just got warm enough to heat up something

Well I have no idea what did or didn't happen, but I know having sawdust in your box is a HUGE no-no. That's box-builder 101. The saw dust gets into the speaker's motor structure via the pole vent and chews on the moving parts like sand paper. Always always remove every bit of saw dust from your box before mounting the speaker. If I were to guess, Id say your friend's sub wont be around much longer.
