Smoke! Smoke!

Kind of but not really. When cranking for a while I will get some smoke burning smell. I kind of thought it was the amps getting hot or maybe the wiring. Well yesterday I had things up pretty good and got a pretty intense smoke smell but no visible smoke. Since it was coming from the trunk I checked it out. The amps were both pretty hot but not so hot you couldn't touch them or anything. I then turned to the box and sub and the center of the sub seemed pretty hot. Maybe it is the VC? Too much power? How do most of you know how far you can go for each given sub? I think this is the stink here! could be your sub, does it sound like it's bottomin out. Also could be plastic melting off your wire. How new is this system? Did this just start happening?

The IDMax and the Hifonics are new pieces. The wires aren't really getting hot at all. What would the sub sound like bottoming out?

If it is an "electrical" kind of smell (also kinda/sorta smells like solder fumes), it is the voice coil. Turn the gains down man!
