small ported box help

I got a Dayton Reference 7" 4 ohm woofer from partsexpress yesterday off their scratch and dent shelf for $20 in the box.

I want to put it in a small ported box until I get a second and toss them in my doors. What size box should I build for this and what tuning should I give it?

From my calculations it doesn't seem like that driver can be done well in a ported box.

First off the box would need to be smaller than the smallest box you could make that would fit it.

The port would need to be small, around .8" in order to be short enough to fit in a very small box, and even then the box would have to be a little too big to fit the driver and port.

Go sealed is my advice.

Someone else would be better at this stuff though, so wait for others to chime in.

I would do about .8 cubic feet tuned to about 40. If that's too big, .6 tuned to 45 won't be too bad but won't play much below 45hz.

.81 cubes at 40 Hz is what I was getting in my calculations too. And I highly doubt .81 cubes is too big considering the 4.5 I have in my rear already
