SKorean granny fails driving test 771 times

SEOUL (AFP) – A dogged South Korean grandmother has failed her driving test 771 times, police said Thursday, but a local newspaper reported she will keep trying.

The 68-year-old, identified only by her last name Cha, has taken the test almost every working day since 2005 in the southwestern city of Jeonju. She failed again Monday for the 771st time.

"It was a record-breaking number here," Choi Yong-Cheol, a police sergeant supervising the test in the city's Deokjingu district, told AFP.

"I wonder if she will try it again for a 772nd time."

The Korea Times said Cha will in fact be back for another attempt.

Choi said that Cha cannot pass the preliminary written section of the test, averaging scores of 30-50 whereas the pass mark is 60 out of 100.

Local media said that Cha sells food and household items door to door at apartment complexes, carrying the items in a handcart, but wants to get a car for her business.

Police estimate she has spent almost five million won (3,600 dollars) to take the written test, with each test costing 6,000 won in addition to other expenses.

"I feel sorry every time I see Cha fail. When she passes, I'll make a commemorative tablet myself and give it to her," one officer was quoted as saying.

down here, if you fail your driver license driving exam 5 times they suspend your license/ability ti get your license for a few months. i think it's for 6. don't remember though. i had a friend fail 4 times and ended up getting his license on the 5th try as the DVM people felt bad for him. pitty...

That's horrible. She clearly shouldn't be driving but yet she probably will end up getting her liscense eventually and get into a car accident that could've easily been avoided. Driving isn't for everyone.

getting a driver license is the easiest thing possible.hell, getting a CDL was easier then a regular driver license. that goes to show you how dumb people are when you fail so much at something so simple. really sad...

Here in Philly we just had some 85 year old woman nail a 6 and and 11 year old kid with her Buick. She just kept going, dragged both kids under her car for a city block with people driving behind her honking their horns and running alongside her car screaming at the top of her lungs for her to stop because there were two kids lodged in the undercarriage of her car. Later on she said she just thought she hit a deer or a dog so she ignored everything and kept going.

I am now a big fan of re-testing at some point after 60 or 65. To hell with them if they consider it offensive or discriminatory. If anybody doesn't like it they can hand over their license and their keys. Aggresive drivers are VERY predictable to me, but you never know what someone with no reasoning and no reflexes left is gonna do. And I've seen some doosies.

so the record was 770 before???

south koreans CAN NOT DRIVE. i lived there for ~1.5yrs and they are horrible drivers. traffic signals are suggestive, not demanded. people drive where ever they can basically. motorcycles cutting thru tight traffic and on sidewalks...

i saw a guy on a motorcycle PLOW into a taxi door that just opened in front of him. he was going ~35mph cutting beside traffic (in the gutter basically) and smash. lols were had //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Liscenses are different in every country though

Yup. In alot of countries it's considered a priveledge, not a right like here. It costs a good deal of money and jumpin through hoops to get one. And alot of times people are less likely to do something that will cause something that costs that much time and money to be taken away.

More proof that chinese women just can't drive
I tend to find that the first generation Asians **** in general at driving. Usually the ones who do 36 mph in the left lane on a highway, stop where they shouldn't stop, hitting the brakes and changing lanes unexpectedly, hesitating unnecessarily, and always looking like they're lost. Usually when you pull alongside and look at them they're staring straight ahead or looking around oblivious to everything like they're fresh off the boat.
