i've been looking for this answer, but i havent been able to get the right one....

i was looking at the sirius s50 portable unit.

the question i have is can i still get the xm channels using it as a portable unit (in my pocket with ear buds). i am under the impression that when im using it in my pocket i can only listen to the 50 hours of stored mp3.

Correct. Wait until Sirius come out with a portable unit that can pick up channels anywhere.
