Sirius Antenna mounting question?!?!

I have XM, so i don't know how alike they are. But i tried inside-mount, and it didn't work too well for me. I just install mine the way they do at the shop; Right at the windshield, center of the roof, and run the wire through all the trim and weatherstrip. Works great.

The satellite signal will pass through glass fine, but not so much through the sheet metal of the roof. Since there is no place inside the cab that has an unobstructed, 360 degree view of the sky, you should mount it outside.

You know that's what I was really thinking about too, seemed pretty vulnerable for the antennas to be on the outside. Maybe I'll just mount it inside at first and see how it sounds and if I have to I'll mount it on the outside.

you drive a truck so take out the third brake light and mount it there and run the wire through, cleanest way to do it. If you mess up the seal on the breaklight make sure you reseal it with something so it does not leak

Wasn't the labor part I didn't want to do, I was more worried about something happening to it outside on the roof(someone taking it or something). Thanks for all the inputs too.

i ran mine inside on my firebird and in my gf's camaro. it's on the roof of my explorer and S10.

as far as XM inside and Sirius out, the XM signals repeat off Sprint cell towers (that's what XM told us 4 years ago, anyway) and Sirius does not. Either way, both of them can cut out depending on your environment.
