Signal processor?!?!?

CAR audio IDIOT :P
Recently various members suggested that a signal processor could possibly benefit my system.

I recently installed aftermarket speaker without exceptional results, needless to say I purchased and amp to offset this outcome.

Some members recommended a signal processor.

I had a few questions about processors but I never received a response so I decided to post again.

What makes a signal processor necessary? How does it benefit me? What are some good brands?

pretty general question.

Car Audio Crossovers, Equalizers, and Signal Processors

basically, they give you tuning options such as a crossover, equalizer, filters, etc. to give you control of the audio signal that the amplifier gets. they install between your head unit and your amplifier(s). they can compensate for limited tuning or features at the head unit.

signal processors also increase wiring complexity, can introduce noise, and require someone who knows how to properly adjust them. in general - keep it simple. don't add what you don't need or won't be able to properly implement.

on the flip side, it gives you an opportunity to experiment and learn. to learn what one does, read the manual.

keeping it simple an equalizer is a good first start. many include some basic crossover functions. they can be 1/2 DIN and mount under your radio in your dash or be "trunk mount" and require locating back by the amps - the latter means tuning is not done while listening.

i think it's good to start with a 1/2 DIN EQ. something like an older Alpine ERA-G180 or a newer Clarion EQS-746.

A signal processor processes the signal. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif So pretty much anything pre-amplification that alters the signal, is a signal processor. This includes EQ's, electronic xovers, line drivers... even F-mods can be considered a crude (passive) signal processor.

Anything in particular I should be looking for in my first equalizer?

I will get one and PLAY!!!

I know this name brand doesn't generally derive a ton of respect, BUT for my first usage, and for playing purposes would this be decent if I can get it shipped for 20 bucks?
