*Sigh* :(

it sounds like something is wrong with your install, you should double check your speaker wiring, RCA's and grounds to radio and amp, you shouldn't have any noise coming through the amp when the music is off. And if there is something wrong with the amp, send it back to sonic, you have a warranty. but i would say something is wrong somewhere else down the line.
nah nothing wrong with the amp, just the noise floor. every amp has it, just some have it less audible or lower than others

Look into the crescendo component sets. they have beefy crossovers and dont take tons of power to get loud. very satisfied for 100 bucks man.
wow 100 bucks eh? i was considering their 4 channel too, wish i got that instead. thanks for the rec

What do you guys think of the Boston Acoustics GT-2300, open box but not really used, for $360, is that a good deal?

I'd jump right on it but i have a few concerns:

-- i read a review that the fans get noisy. are they on all the time? and will i really be able to hear them in a wagon/SUV or was the guy just being fickle?

-- it seems suspiciously light. but maybe that's because heavier heat sink replaced by fan(s)?

-- it has no preouts. suppose i absolutely wanted the same signal for something else, like my sub, is there a solution to this? if i split the signal cables, does it degrade resolution, or lower the volume, etc?

-- BA recommends 0 gauge power cable. now i probably won't be pushing this to its limits, but will using 4 gauge power cable distributed into 8 gauge (which would connect to the amp) affect the performance or durability of the amp?

i know, n00b questions, but bear with me. i'm like a sponge i promise

It's $350 new shipped at onlinecarstereo

didn't find any info on when they run. Some run all the time, some have temp sensors that turn on at a preset temp. I would think it would be less irritating if they just ran all the time vs switching on and off.

13 lb doesn't seem that light to me

Y cables are fine. No noticable effect on signal quality.

documentation says it has dual 4 awg inputs. Only at 4 ohms stereo would I consider 8 gauge, even then only if the 8 gauge is very short. It would probably create more voltage drop in the wire than what you want to see. I'd run 4 if at all possible, and if you're going to run it harder than 4 ohms stereo definitely 4. If you're going to be running it to its limit (1 ohm stereo/2 ohms mono) definitely do the 2x4 awg.

FWIW - I agree w/haunz that it seems more likely you've reached the output limits of the Alpine speakers rather than proven HF's amps are poorly rated. That amp might not do advertised power in the car, but I bet it's pretty close at 4 ohms. I bet it falls short at 2 ohms. The cea-2006 cert only holds them to their 4 ohm stereo rating if my understanding of the spec is correct.

I'll stick my neck out and plug my component set -- Opti6c.

It's cheaper than what most people would consider "quality", but the woofer is built using a 3" voice coil -- that's the size you see on a lot of 12" and 15" subs. It can handle a ton of power, get very loud, and stay clean doing it. The comp set is rated for 250w rms per side. The woofer a clone of a morel woofer used in their $1600 comp set. Soundstream has a version as well.

I'm driving mine with an opti4x400d amp bridged. Rated at 360x2. I expect it is over-rated, but I wasn't planning to use 360w anyway. I'm sure they're getting something near thier 250w rating. Been running for a couple years and I've been really happy with them. You can buy just the woofers for

hmn. so $350 brand new. I might return my hifonics for Sonic credit as i was most likely planning on buying speakers there anyway. So ya'll think it would be a good decision to use that boston amp to power my frontstage? signal to noise ratio of 100dB, 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms, and a product of a reputable company, sounds like a good decision

haha i know. but the amp is CEA rated... supposed to be putting out true wattage. i doubled my output at 4 ohms, and more than tripled my output at 2. it was the "loudest" 4 channel amp on the market i could find for less than $700.
what should i do?
I only read the first page but $700? OK. If you know what the internet is and bought on the net, you didn't pay $700 for that amp. As for suggestions, Kicker zx series are pretty strong. JL's got good pricing on the used slash series. JBL, Crossfire, AQ's 4x90, the list goes on. You didn't do your research.

You are accusing me of not doing research on what basis? You admitted to only reading first page //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/read.gif.ff512c499c00ed3faae9a20f4b088b29.gif

Its pretty obvious you did no research what so ever when you bought a Hifonics because you were looking for something under $700. There are alot brands better than Hifonics for less than $700 yet you choose Hifonics anyways.

Well neither did you if you think that the zx series is worth buying....

yeah maybe i didn't at first. but it's not like i did "no research". i knew i was taking a chance on the hifonics. it was a calculated risk that i seem to have lost out on. oh well, life goes on. what you think about that boston amp though dragon?

oh and I sent in RMA for it. In a couple weeks I will have $289 Sonic bucks. with their price match i'm guessing i could get the GT-2300 for $367.50, so i'd only be tossing in $78.50, if my calculations are correct. I'm also considering saving up for a month or two and holding out for the Human Reign two channel... eh, thoughts?
