Short Protection

I bought a 3600watt Star Sound Silver (SSA 3600.2) and a 5200watt Star Sound Digital monoblock (SSA-S1D-5200) amplifiers. With the 3600w (2ohm stereo stable) when connected with a 2Ohm stereo load.. as the volume is turned up the amp cuts off...? any suggestions?

With the 5200watt (1ohm stable) - a 2ohm or 4ohm load the amplifier goes onto "short protection" at higher volumes.

could it be that there is insufficient power form the car battery, coz the battery is relatively small. It is 12v but the amps per hour is like 35AmH.

Please any suggestions would be greatly apprieciated.

Oh and i have checked the load with a multimeter.

Thank you

I have never heard of that brand of amplifier, but I'm sure it's because I live in the US and your on another continent entirely.

I can give some general tips regardless though:

First of all, since you say you checked the ohm loads with the multimeter (DMM), I recommend checking how low your car's voltage goes when the amp's cut out. If it is dropping below 12, that may very well be your problem. Amps can go into low voltage protection to prevent them burning up. You say you have a small batt, and if those amps are rated at RMS, or anything near it, your going to need a much stronger electrical for 9,000 watts.

Thanks will check the voltage...

from what I can find, they are not rms ratings. the 2000w amp has an rms of 500x1@1ohm
Ah okay, I didn't try looking since I'm on a school computer and I don't like these keyboards/mice at all. Not to mention it's an old version of Mac OS so it doesn't display most pages correctly. Not even CA.com shows up 100% right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Well if they are rated like that, then you will probably still need to upgrade battery but chck your voltage first, you may also have a short somewhere in the power or ground wire running to the amp. (ie the insulation ripped and wire is touching the chassis, or other possibilities)

Thanks guys.... i think its the voltage coz small amps run fine.

Will check and post back

caps not needed. you need to upgrade your battery, possibly 2 batteries, and the big 3.
The prob is more batteries means bigger altenator ... etc etc ... more costly.

I thought maybe the cheaper way out would be to install a capcitor...

Thanks

Caps don't work, that's the problem. Bigger batteries don't require a bigger alternator. I'm running a HUGE power master d3100 (117aH or so) and a d1200(44aH) off of my stock 110 alternator and all is well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

hey man, its been a while since you have posted this topic, seeing as you are my only chance of getting help, i am hoping you could assist, that is if you still come on this site.

I bought the exact same SSA-3600.2 Starsound amp (very powerful), but i lost all documentation for it.

I know the rating is 1800 x 2 channel, but have no idea what the rms or the ohm load spec is....

Man i will buy you a case of beer for any assistance you can provide.

my email address is also paichzn@gmail.com

If there is anyone else who can assist, i would greatly appreciate it
