What is the best way to ship a sub box?

I will be shipping a 1.6CuFt box sometime next week.

DHL, UPS, FedEx, and USPS all quoted around $40, but maybe you guys know another method.

Should I start an account with one to get a discount and just continue to use it?

My question is more towards what is the cheapest way to ship them? I already have an idea of how to actually package the box. I'm guessing I won't get it any lower than $40 for 1.6ft^3?

Are you shipping with an account or are you taking it to some shipping store that ships UPS or FedEx but not owned by them? If you take it to one of these stores, their charge is likely to be much more, up to twice, as much as the quote you get directly from UPS or FedEx because they get a cut. The only way you'll get the price that UPS or FedEx charges is if you have an account or you can print a shipping label directly from the web site.

I have a FedEx account that gives me a small discount because I am a member of a certain organization. Unless you are shipping a lot of stuff, I'm not sure you would get a discount otherwise.

I had a sealed box shipped to me once. The box was filled with styrofoam and then wrapped up in cardboard with more styrofoam filling empty spaces. This was then placed into a larger cardboard box filled with more peanuts. The box arrived in perfect condition. When shipping something that is potentially very fragile, a well built sub box is fairly sturdy but you want your customer to get it in the same condition, you should always consider double boxing. That's how they usually ship things like glass.
