Server/Archive Question

What would I need to speed up encoding and unarchiving? On my workstation. More ram? processor isnt bogged down.

My Boss wants to "Ghost a server" Is that even possible? Having 2 servers run exactly the same, Like if one took a bullet the other would continue running and hosting the database.
