Selling my Sony MEX-BT38UW to a friend, looking for a really good HU

The Sony MEX-BT38UW is nearly $200, and frankly it was a disappointing purchase. Sure the feature list is long but when it comes to audio its actually quite lacking. All that it can do is EQ and DB output boost (clipping button) Is there a head unit that can search through songs on USB media? Instead of going album by album. The big issue is I don't know any brands really, the big names like JVC, Sony, Pioneer I see them everywhere. But do they suffer from the same "mainstream" syndrome that subs do? Or are they actually good.

Edited OP, just looking for a good HU company so I can start looking for a replacement. My Sony was crap so I don't want to buy another dash potato

most of the name brands have their lower entry-level lines and their upper-end lines.

What is your budget and what features do you really want?

Are you going to run external amps?

Do you want / need bluetooth, iPod, USB, ect??

For $200 there are some very decent units available.

I have one very similar to this. Its a kenwood BT645-U. I love this HU, and it does everything i need, (short of making me breakfast on the way to work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif). This one has the bluetooth feature, but I would not use this as a selling point. Whenever I use the bluetooth, people on the other end cannot hear me very well. Granted I have a pretty loud suv, but still its annoying. I am going to mess with the settings later (noise cancellation and what not) and hopefully that helps.

That kenwood looks awesome, I'm planning to buy a little in the future but about $200 is what i'm willing to spend. A huge bonus is if it has the USB cable coming out of the back so I can run a USB line to my glove box, that, and quickly searching music..

Naw, go ALPINE!!!!! Or one of the new color changing JVC's, installed one in my dads truck. There awsome, look for somthing with 4v preouts(i believe the JVC's are 2volt though)

I just bought my Kenwood kdc-x895 for $166 on ebay and so far it's fantastic the preouts are 4v but I sweat they are more I'll have to check some day.

Yup I have an HTC Inspire 4g and the bluetooth on it works great very clear mic is amazing pics up anyone in the jeep lol. I can scroll thru my phonebook with the head unit and call them too check out the pdf for the unit here http://manual.kenwood.com/files/4dd9fd8344f09.pdf
