Securing the Head Unit

is there any way bolt the head unit or secure it to make it harder for people to steal it.
The most secure normal way I know of for head units to mount is an ISO-DIN mounting method which has two bolts in either side of the deck's chassis screwed into a metal bracket.

Use the backstrap and bolt it securely to something behind the dash?

Make certain you always take your faceplate if applicable?

Steel cable backstrap. Mine wrapped around a steel tube behind the HU, then was bolted *somewhere* that required a lot of disassembly to get to. It was a pain to put in and take out, but my HU was never stolen for the year it was installed. No one tried through, so maybe my work was for nothing. i've heard of people using reverse threaded bolts, but i've never seen any, nor would i remember I put them in.

someone told me that you could make two holes on the back of the HU and attach a thin bicycle chain to it and to the car with a lock. do you think that would be a good idea and will it work?

Look at it this way, if your head isnt in excess of 1000 bux I wouldnt bother and here is why. I see cars everyday where the deck was stolen, if a theif cant get the deck out easily they start breaking stuff. Then they stab their screw driver through the dash. All of the sudden instead of just replacing a 300 deck they stole now you are replacing a 300 deck they smashed, about 200-300 dollars in trim and then another bill of anywhere from 100-1000 dollars of dash repair depending on car make and amount of damage done. Im not saying make it easy to steal, all Im saying is install it in the normal fashion and take your faceplate off, to me thats the best option. Oh and get an alarm, not just a blinking light but an actual alarm, and mabye a louiseville slugger, then your set.

All I do is take my faceplate.
I guess people COULD steal it, but seems like it would be rather pointless.
Someone stole my friends faceplate because they couldn't figure out how to get the dash out. Luckily we used the factory brackets to mount the deck. Unfortunatly, the dumb bastard broke his front windsheild out of fustration.

Sucks I will be getting double din unit soon. My possibility of theft will be high. Why isnt there a double din removable face develope yet is what I wanna know? I dont mind carrying it around if it would stop thieves from looking.

The reason why I said you need an alarm as opposed to just a blinking light is because if the theif decides to test the alarm by hitting the car to set off the shock sensor and it doesnt chirp then the gig is up and he is gonna nail your car, with a real alarm the siren chirps and he looks for an easier target

I have one but it's still not enough. Break glass > pop hood > disconnect siren...then its over. They should make the cage where the unit slide into like a box, with slide down metal cover and locks.
