sealing a seam

In my newest box build I have two seams. I have seams because I am building around the jack holder.

In retrospect, I should have cut out the correct dimensions and used a jig saw. But that is experience.

What should I do to seal the seam, and make in strong (not a point of flex). This will be at the bottom. Here is what I was thinking:

1) Use resin to seal the seam. I am not sure what proportion I need to mix the resin and hardener to ensure it gets abosorbed by the mdf instead of sitting on top.

2) Use a 2" wide piece of mdf to build a bridge over the seams. I think this will assist with the stregnth as well as provide bracing. I was thinking of adding these in various places.

Any other suggestions?

Resin and fiberglass, OR box it with MDF.

Either way, the MDF will take longer... but be less expensive...

I definitely agree with your retrospect //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif...

1/4" MDF about .5" wide across the seam. That will be the easiest and cost you maybe $3 or nothing if you use scrap wood.

Some resin will also work if you have the available. Hell, even some glue and a small amount of saw dust will seal it up pretty well.
