Hey Guys,

I have a 2004 F150. I am runnning Alpine R SPR-574A 5x7 both front and rear. Excellent coaxials. The outer skins have a gallon of edead per door but I have not done anything with the inner skins yet. There are huge openings where the plastic was removed.

If speakers sound best in enclosures, should I close up these holes??? I could use some 1/4" coated wood to close up the holes or I could close it up with a bunch of dynamat stuff. I am thinking the wood would be best then seal it the whole inner skin with dynamat.

Do you guys think this will make a difference?????

Yes it will make a big difference. You can use sheet metal or cardboard with a few layers of mat on it. I went a little less conventional and used the plastic you use seal the windows in your house with in the winter followed by several layers of sheet rock repair tape for reinforcement. After that was on I put 3-4 thin layers of SS sludge on each side and then 2 layers of Dynamat extreme. It came out rigid yet can be cut and repaired if I need to get into my door in the future.

Also consider adding some type of closed cell foam or a deflex pad behind the driver to prevent the backwaves from bouncing off the door and hitting the cone.
