Lets see how well you've been paying attention to my crazy posts....

Post your guess on what two used amplifiers I just scored on the auction site today.

{BTW, I'm done collecting amps for my audio project ..... honest injian //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif }

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif Bonus round question:

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/hide.gif.2d479cfd917eedfe201353b91522ceab.gif Add up the total rated wattage of the amps I collected and what total wattage would

that be ?

A matched pair of Crest 10001s
Bonus Round: I don't know if the collection includes units beyond those two and at what impedence you're going to run them. *shrug*
You are --> http://images.hollywood.com/images/large/l_2443507.jpg

Bonus round clue: 2 Crest 10k + ten more amps. Use lowest impedance rating

of the amp to figure out total. /yikes.

The AC power line I installed a while back was over-engineered. I used

three 2 awg cables {120v, 120v, neutral, and 4 awg for safety ground

for a 240VAC subpanel in the sound room. To keep losses lower, all amps

will be re-wired for 240VAC operation, cuts current draw on that main line in half.

Here is the battle station plans, revised.

PLX3402 bridged -> four tweeters, parallel 3.2 ohms. {left channel}

PLX3402 bridged -> four tweeters, parallel, 3.2 ohms. {left channel}

PLX3402 bridged -> four mids, parallel 2 ohms. {left channel}

PLX3402 bridged -> four mids, parallel, 2 ohms. {left channel}

Crest 10k bridged -> four 15" woofers {not sub duty}, 2 ohms {left channel}

... repeat above for right channel.

Two PLX3402 may do center channel and surround duty, unsure.

Ten PLX3402 -> 34,000 watts rated

Two Crest 10k -> 20,000 watts rated {second rating 30kw}.

We know that these ratings are based off some other industry standard

spec, not really the sine wave/rms method. So.. these are really 'musical' power

specs, they can deliver these power ratings on lower duty cycles {music}.

But the Crest is old school, I snagged the schematics and checked it out.

It's has big azz balls ... four transformers, 14 power transistors per rail,

which means 14 push, 14 pull transistors per channel {56 transistors total}.

PLX3402 has 16 transistors total by comparison and the power supply seems limited to 2kw

using rms method. /rough guess .. their power supply seems to be the weak link, hence

it's job is for tweets/mids. Perfect for that job.

So.. to drive the woofers with balls, the Crest makes more sense. The clipping

headroom is 320V {not factoring in losses}, PLX headroom is 260V.

I have to bring chaos to order ...

Ozzfest in a couple of years, free entrance tickets, but you pay traveling fees

to check it out.

To make the comedy higher, the room is small, one chair.. so this will be a torture

chamber, like jumping out of a plane with no chute ................................

I need subs though, no room for them ....... so we have to live with 32hz - 35hz

ported woofers, not really for HT but for metal music -> yay! ........... // slayer! //

It is now one of my goals in life, to listen to your toture chamber and subject myself to the punishment thyantyr.
It will be good punishment, you'll see. It's totally opposite of what people think

when they see big speakers with lots of amps. The trick is to get those unique

speakers. I found some very unique drivers for this project. I have a tweeter

that can do what ten PT2 do in an array but offer better SQ and low frequency

response. Put 16 of these tweeters in a room //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The midranges I'm going to use are a special order from France. I ordered them

2 months ago, arrives in a few weeks. These mids and tweeters have a very

special synergy. I've bench tested one tweeter and one mid together and I was

able to 'amaze the natives'.. Imagine what 16 tweets, 16 mids will do in the final

design //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

The woofers are special, wideband woofers hand made. With clever use of an

EQ and doing a blind test, I can make you think they are tweeters with 16mm

of throw.

It's an amazing recipe that I spent years locating and testing. I need 8 more

tweeters to finish the driver collection phase of the project. It's going to be

crazy for sure.
