I wish I could be there when they hit the button! I've been following this off and on over the last two years or so, and it's not there anymore, but a good while back, CERN's description of how and what it will do was a little different.
They talked about how the LHC was capable of firing two proton beams in opposite directions at the force of 7 TeV (trillion electron volts), colliding at 14 TeV to create never before observed reactions between particles.
The LHC will be capable of squeezing energy into the size of one million millionth the size of a mosquito!
That last part REALLY give me chills....can you say, "expolsion."
I can't wait to find out what happens and hopefully they'll stream over the net when they do hit the button.
