Ok in my chemistry class me and my buddy are partners and he wants to do a science fair project related to car audio. Any ideas what we could do thats easy,or if you have done this before please let me know.

I said something with like maybe building a box or sumthing and showing how it would be louder or something but idk cause our teacher said you can NOT use feet or inches evreything has to be converted to like cm/mm and such..

But all ideas welcome folks thanks alot

Why don't you do a project on the chemicals needed in a bozos brain to allow them to purchase Rockford and Audiobahn..

Or lack of chemicals...

how about making it a bit simpler and doing how speakers work, since they are just electromagnets. you can get lots of information from http://www.howstuffworks.com (just type in speakers) and the re-se build that RE posted (can somone fetch that link?)

would be lot easier to explain, also - explain how speakers generate heat as a byproduct of converting electrical energy to kinetik enery (aka: vibrations\sound) and they dissapate that heat using vented motor structes, different kinds of former material, different kinds of coil metals, ect ect (show pictures of various speakers (google images is great for this)) and then show the video i did on the realm about what happens when a speaker breaks (aka, explain clipped signals, and over-powering)

better yet, do an expierement where you blow up a speaker lol.

http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=129875

that would be ALOT eaiser that explaining how a reflex enclosure works, and people would understand a little better

see if you can build a little demonstration boot too - with an inverted speaker or somthing. aside what people may think, theres alot of science behind speakers - and you could make a kickass presentation on them and it would be wicked simple to boot!

No its not for chemistry its a ga science fair for highschool u can do anything u wont to does not have to be related to chem at all my teacher already told us as long as we attempt the project we get a 100 test grade

Thats what i was thinking^^ but how exactly would i go about doing this and will it still be the same since i cant use feet or inches and such
A ported enclosure is essentially a helmholtz resonator.

http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/~jw/Helmholtz.html

It'd be relatively easy, as you could then explain how a helmholtz resonator works, and then how the cross-sectional area of the port and port length in relation the enclosure volume creates a helmholtz resonator (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=165), and how that resonator is excited by certain frequencies played by the subwoofer and how the port adds to the output of the system (sub in enclosure).

And you would only increase your knowledge of audio in the process //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

do it on how speakers work - people wont understand that shit squeak - and nor will they care unless they see somthing exploding (PLAY THAT VIDEO!!!) - lol.

if you cant figure it out, then make a fiberglass volcano with super duper LED lights and a ricer cannon.

i think your best (and eaisest) car-audio related topic would be how a speaker works... maybe how the electrical system in a vhehicle works? i dont know if there is enough interesting stuff on that topic though.
