Sa-8

its rated at 400 rms but there are videos of them taking more daily, and taking a thousand or more for spl competition. if thats not good enough for him he needs to learn some more about car audio before trying to tell his son what he can and cannot have

my dads been around car audio since he was about 12-13 and has worked with virgril willaims back in the day. he hasnt really messed around with stuff lately and doesnt like using brands that arnt super big names for some reason, and the amp has been gone thru and worked with idk what the heck he did but pushes my junkie fusions twice as hard as when i got it.

I think he is worried about the amp putting too much power to the sub,

I always try to power my speakers with a amp that is double the rated power of the amp.

this will assure you have "headroom", better efficiency, cooler running longer lasting amp.

all you have to do is be mindful of the gains and settings and you won't have any problem.

An amp does not put out its full rated power all the time, in fact a 800w amp can be adjusted to put out only a small fraction of its rated power.

Tell your dad that lanzar, pyle, hifonics, and basically every good brand that was around in his time. They have all been bought out and shipped over seas, they are no longer respectable audio company's like they were back in the days when he was into this stuff. A LOT has changed since then. quality equipment is more difficult to find these days, unlike back then when almost everything was well built.

with all do respect, and the best intentions, he needs to brush up on his audio a bit.

I really like these subs. Im wanting to trade out my new RE SE's 12" subs in a sealed box in my 2008 Crew Cab Sierra for subthumps new quad 8 inch sealed enclosure. All I see on youtube are videos in a ported enclosure. Will these peform well in a sealed enclosure? If they do, do you think these would be an upgrade to my current system?

Also, Im looking at Sundowns website and Im not seeing any specifications for their SA8. Only their lower end model the E8 V.2 which is rated at 200 watts and has all of the specifications. Im really wanting to put 4 of the SA8's in my friends regular cab Silverado, but I cant find any specs and unsure if it would be better than 2 10's max of 5.5" mounting depth or 2 12's max of 4.75" mounting depth with a Subthump enclosure.

Sorry if this is post dumping, but I think the answers will have some revelance to the original question and add to the arised questions about this great sub.

No offense, but your dad definitely needs to brush up on his car audio... I was really into CA back in 92-'03 but a lot has changed since then. Everything I knew about brands is pretty much out the window these days. The big mainstream brands still produce a few top of the line models, but they are pricey and not any better (if not worse) than most of the "underground" brands.

If someone would've bragged about having Sundown, FI, DC several years ago I would've laughed in their face. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Never heard of them before.

Now I'm saving for some SA-8's or X-8's, so I'm not laughing anymore. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

What SmartAss said about headroom and using higher power amps than required is true. You can get a lot more clean sound before clipping, better efficiency, and longer life out of your equipment this way. Just make sure you dial in your equipment so you don't overpower your subs (except on burps).

Really? I've seen the rli-8's and they're really impressive for 8's... I was considering getting the SA-8's myself, now you've got me wondering...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
