Here's a really impractical inversion of that argument...

Suppose your tire is loosing air. You can stop the car and patch it, but you're worried about what will happen when you do (miss or be late for an opportunity). So instead, you put a bunch of air in it and get to where you need to go, at which time you might be in a better position to patch the tire.
