To be honest the bit doesnt really matter( I mean get an ok one.) but the mdf is going to dull it anyway. MDF=Teh suxorz.

Thats why you get the carbide tipped ones, doesnt dull as fast.

Carbide is the only way to roll for MDF (or plywood for that matter). HSS is fine for pine or other soft woods but carbide will let you work anything and will still take a while to dull.

Sharp bits are just as if not more important than the motor turning them. Most decent routers will have nearly immeasurable runout and the base and the spindle stay square. From there it's all about the bit.
