ok so when i open my windows my sub bumps alot more. expecially wen i just crack one of them about 3-4inchs. but when i open them too much expecially more than one it drowns out alot, So does too much air flow make the sub exurt more therefore hurting it even though the volume will be the same when i have the windows up i have never smelled coil burning til i rolled the windows down too far.

when the windows are up the sub movement is limited because it isn't strong enough to pressurize the cabin. when the window is cracked you create a bandpass enclosure and the amount the window is open is affecting the tuning of the enclosure. as you open the windows/doors the enclosure starts to behave as if it is in free space.

each vehicle/system combination is unique. typically, you tend to smell coils more with windows up because you are forcing power through the coils while the pressure of the cabin works against the cone movement. if you smell the coils with the windows down, then the cone may be moving in excess of limits.

how do you prevent the sub from excurting too much, could my subsonic be to low/high or the LPF? thanks

possible your SSF is too low, allowing the subs to play "unloaded".

one easy way to prevent a sub from moving too much is to turn the volume down. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

if you smell the coils then they are getting hot and are getting close to failure.

it's also possible that the box is improperly sized/tuned and is resisting cone movement on it's own. when combined with the cabin volume the combination is such that the sub is properly controlled.

what he said...

Also what sub, how much power, enclosure size/port area?

Usually if the port area is on the small side you'll see a bigger increase in output with a window down/door open...
