That's awful advice to give a complete novice.

The bike would shoot smooth out from between his legs and unhappy things would certainly follow...

Depends on the head on that persons shoulder. I started riding street bikes at 16 years old. I do some dumb stuff that's extremely risky, but it's my decision and I try to do things in the safest manner possible. Keep it on one.
