Rockford punch he makin funny metal sounds

I have a rockford punch he. And when I press down on the sub an inch or 2 it makes a metal scraping noise. Is this normal if it goes down to far? And when I hook it up it bumps really hard (givin it like 200-250 rms rms) but it makes a weird knocking noise. Is that related to the metal sound or is that just cuz I'm pushin it too hard?
