Sup. I want 2 purchase a rockford fosgate 1500bd amp. I currently own a ported

box with 2 12"kicker L5's. I,also, have a epicenter. My first question is:

Is it better to have a ported box or a reguar box?

Second:

Do I have to upgrade to L7's since I am running with the rf 1500w amp?

I ran my 10" l7 off of ~800wrms. Your going to be running around 850wrms to each sub if you wire it down to 1 ohm. I would say thats alot for l5's. But if your careful you can get away with it. You can probably wire them to 2 ohms if your subs are D2 VC and that should get you like 400wmrs per sub. And ported is best for maxiumum output, that is if you build it to the specs of the sub. Sealed is a lil cleaner sounding and requires less space but requires more power to push your subs.

I am assuming that by regular box, you mean sealed. Sealed and ported both have their good and bad, many prefer ported because of the flexibility to tune it if you're building it yourself. Only problem with ported is that they take up more spaces than sealed boxes.

As far as using the RF on the L5, you should be able to get away with it. You just have to know what you're doing. Just remember that just because you have a 1500watts amp, it doesn't mean that you're always using that much power.
