I don't like these drivers in the sealed, downfiring enclosure I am running. I have them in 1.0 cubes per driver after displacement, and they sound like crap. I find the output isn't anywhere near where it should be, and it rolls off on the lows real bad.

Rockford's recommended ported enclosure (per driver) is:

- 2.5 cubes (although they give a range of 1.75 to 4 cubes)

- two 4" round ports, 12.65" long

- tuned @ 40hz

25 sq. inches of port area per driver does not sound like it's enough to me. I have an old box that I used to run that I am going to use. It's 6.03 cubes internal, and measures 20"x13"x50.5", so I have 5.78 cubes available after driver displacement, but I could shrink it if you think it should be smaller. I was thinking about running drivers and ports facing forward, on the 13" face. I happen to have quite a few 6" Aero Ports laying around that I have available to use.

Questions:

- How far off the back wall does a 6" Aeroport have to be? I was thinking the distance should be 1/2 the diameter of the port. Is that right? In this case, it would then be 3", and would allow me to run 16.25" of port length, flare to flare.

- How big should the enclosure be for a daily setup with decent SPL?

- How much port area should I run? Where do these drivers like to be tuned?

The help will be much appreciated.

If I were to shrink it to 4 cubes, and run two 6" aeros, how long would they have to be to tune it to 35, or 32 even?

What about slot port length?

According to this calculator, using a slot port, I would need a port length of 25.5", with 63 sq. inches of port. I am assuming this is correct.

This is not mine, but nearly identical. My grilled surround is colour matched white, and the emblem is painted black. I am about to run the same wheels, but 18", but they're not on yet because my tires are on backorder for another 4 weeks (Goodyear Duratracs 325/65r18).

2 6" ports in a 4 cu.ft. box would be very long tuned that low
I'll just throw a slot port in there then. It'll be easier. Subs and port will be facing forward, with the box just sitting on the back seat. The box is 50.5" long. Should I place the port on the drivers side, or passenger side?

Ok. I decided to go 4.5 cubes after displacement, slot ported, with 65 sq. inches of port, tuned to 35 hz. Hopefully this works out. I built most of the enclosure tonight. I'll finish it up tomorrow.
