Road trip destinations?

So a week before my friends and I go to Cabo, we want to take a road trip somewhere. We obviously are starting from Illinois, and really do not want to go across the country, but pretty far out of state. Vegas, Florida out of the picture.

Anybody have any ideas of somewhere that would make a road trip worth while? I've been searching online but all I come up with is ads and links to search engines with more ads.
